原文 It is summer on Sodor, and Spencer arrives to work on the Duke and Duchess of Boxford's summer house. Spencer is rude to the other engines, and even calls Thomas a "tiny toy tank engine"! Insulted, Thomas challenges Spencer to a race. While racing him, Thomas' brakes fail and he is accidentally diverted onto a lost line. There he discovers an old, abandoned engine from far away named Hiro. Hiro tells Thomas that he was one of the first steam engines on Sodor and he was once called "The Master of the Railway". He got old, and when parts were ordered from Hiro's homeland, they never came. To avoid scrap, Hiro was hidden away on the old line. Thomas is afraid to tell Sir Topham Hatt for fear he might scrap Hiro. While Thomas is being repaired at the Sodor Steam Works, he sees a part to help rebuild Hiro. Thomas soon realizes that he cannot repair Hiro alone and recruits Percy to help. While Thomas repairs Hiro, Percy hides his mail cars and takes Thomas' load instead. However, the load proves too heavy for Percy and he breaks down. In all the excitement, Percy forgets where he left the mail cars. Sir Topham Hatt is furious and the other engines figure out that something's up. Meanwhile, Thomas discovers that the new Duke and Duchess' summer house is very close to Hiro's hiding place. Spencer sees Thomas on his way to Hiro's hideout and becomes suspicious. Thomas then tells the other engines about Hiro. They decide to help. The next day, Spencer follows Thomas. Thomas leads him as far from Hiro as possible. After an incident in the quarry, Spencer must be repaired. The engines are soon almost finished fixing Hiro. They are waiting for Percy to bring the last part when Spencer discovers them. Thomas urges Hiro to flee, but without the last part, Hiro can't move. Spencer leaves, but Hiro was damaged by trying to start and is beyond the engine's help. Thomas realizes that he must tell Sir Topham Hatt. After Thomas goes to find him, Spencer knows what Thomas is about to do and chases after him. Thomas takes a shortcut along an old line. As they are crossing a bridge across a marshland, the bridge collapses under Spencer's weight. Thomas tells Sir Topham Hatt about Hiro, and is suprised when he tells him that Hiro is very famous. They take Hiro to the Sodor Steamworks, who with the help of Victor and Kevin, is soon restored to his former glory. They then lift Spencer out of the mud, and finish the Duke and Duchess' summer house. But despite everything, Hiro is sad, when Thomas asks why, he explains he misses his homeland. Thomas tells Sir Topham Hatt. He arranges for Hiro to be taken home. They arrange a grand send-off at Brendam Docks, and everyone says goodbye to Hiro before he leaves.
